Option 1)Removal of snaps from old carpet inserts: This applies to boats that have previously had snap in cockpit carpeting. You will first need to remove all the existing snaps. These are normally screwed down with a stainless steel Phillips head screw. Once the screws are removed we suggest filling the holes with epoxy to prevent water intrusion. You can use any of the quick set epoxies available at marine parts store, auto parts store and home centers. We suggest the syringe type that pre mixes as it comes out, it is a little easier to apply. Option 2)Removal of previously glued down traction mats: Start by peeling a corner of the mat up from the deck. Slowly continue to pull while using a plastic putty knife or scraper to help you release the mat from the glue. Keep working at it until all mats are removed. Once the mats are removed you need to get the left over pieces and the remaining glue residue. We suggest 3M adhesive remover or other suitable brand. This will soften the glue and allow you to scrap and wipe it away. Clean up:After all the old mats and glue are removed you will need to clean the surface before installing your new mat set.Use some rags and solvent for this step. Denatured alcohol, acetone, goof off or goo gone will work here. Change your rag often so as not to just spread the dirt and goo around. After this wash the entire surface with a mild soap and water solution and thoroughly dry ( a day in the sun works best here). Install: First lay out all the mats in their proper location and check for a good fit. At this point use a pencil and mark a few spots around each mat to use as an alignment guide while sticking them down. Begin by peeling one edge of the first mat you have chosen to install and stick it to the floor making sure to align it with your marks. Once this edge is down you can continue to peel the backing while pressing the mat into place.(DO NOT TRY TO INSTALL THE ENTIRE MAT AT ONCE) After all mats are adhered to the floor of the boat you must apply pressure over the entire surface to activate the PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive). You can do this by standing on all the mats moving around to make sure you apply pressure everywhere, especially the edges. Care and Maintenance: BlackTip Jetsports Traction Mats are very easy to care for. Rinse them with fresh water while cleaning the boat. Use a mild soap and water solution the same as you would for washing the rest of the boat. For stubborn stains you can use Simple Green, Fantastic, 409 or other similar household cleaner and rinse with water after cleaning. |
