    plugs for 96 Wave Blaster 760

    What are the appropriate spark plugs for 96 Wave Blaster 760? And the gap - 0.020 - 0.024?

    (My son just rebuilt the carbs, and we spent the next afternoon tuning the low/high speed screws. It seemed perfect for an a couple hours. The next day - the motor cranked up and ran great for about 15 WOT minutes. It stalled hot at idle and would not restart for more than 5 seconds at a time. I suspect plugs gave up....) Other ideas?

    I think it uses NGK BR8HS --- May be sticker in the engine/exhaust that tells what plug is recommended. Gap them at .024- .028. I don't give plugs much lifespan in a 2 cycle, with the oil-fuel-ash, and fouling with un-leaded gas, cheap to change plugs once or twice during season, depending on time ridden.

    Look for fuel flow problem (filter new?), old stale gas acting up when hitting hot engine? Alcohol content?

      Correct specs - and try new plugs first because if you were fiddling with the mixture and ran rich, they may be fouled, yes. Do you need the stock specs?

        The Waveblaster engine is stock - so the stock specs would be appreciated.

        (The blaster and manual's are about 90 minutes away - and I want to take the right stuff back to Somerville.)

        There's a new fuel filter.

        W.R.T. the comment about alcohol content - I don't understand.

            Some "smog areas" will add up to 10% ethanol alcohol to the gas, as alcohol burns so clean (we have added high % of methanol to problem carb'd cars to get them through e-test), but it evaporates at moderate temp, add heat, and will up and evaporate, leaving you with a lean condition, and also mess with rubber parts (more of a methanol problem).

            Look at the pump where you buy your fuel, by law, there is supposed to be a sticker on the pump (readily visible) stating fuel contains alcohol.

              I have a '96 WaveRaider 760, which I'm sure is the same engine.

              I belive that it does use the BR8HS plugs, and that .024 is correct.

              This thread brought up something that I never took into account... High alcohol content in the gas. Here in Denver, we have a high percentage of alcohol and the last two seasons I've had a heck of a time getting the boat "running perfect."

              After running WOT for what seems like forever, stopping the engine, starting it back up... all great. Mine Will start easily, and idle OK. But when I get on the throttle from idling in the no wake zone to get the boat up and moving, it darned near dies (spits and sputters) and then it finally gets up and moves.

              Could this be caused by the alcohol content in the gas? I was going to change out the reeds with ones with snappier performance.

              This also got me thinking of the needles and seats in the carbs as well. If I'm not mistaken, they make a needle that has a tip designed for high alcohol content. Should that be something to look into, or is that really designed for racing, and extreme alcohol content?

                thanks folks for the plugs and gap. looking at 0.024 - I know I've been setting the gap too large.

                Houston also adds ethanol. I'll have to check in Somerville.
