  • Premix--What is it?

You all keep telling me that I need to switch to Premix? Hate to sound dumb but what does that exactly me??

Thanks for all the help again.

It simply means to do away with your oil injection pump, by means of a block off kit and add oil to your fuel tank.

Depending on your application; 50:1, 40:1 or whatever (gallons of plain fuel to gallons of oil), just add the oil to your gas before putting fuel in your tank. The two stroke oil bottle will tell you the ounces of oil per gallon of fuel for whichever your ratio is. I mix mine in a 5 gal jug, then dump it in the tank, that way what fuel goes in the ski, it'll always be measured correctly whether I'm putting in 4, 7, or 10 gallons of fuel. Takes more time, but I think it's worth piece of mind.
Like the tech articles tell you, going premix a way of ensuring that you'll always have lubrication to the cylinders. I didn't want to wait for my oil pump or lines to fail before doing it myself. I installed my SBT engine last year, went premix and haven't had any problems.

        Cyberized -

To be perfectly clear, if you are going to premix DO NOT pour the oil in your pwc gas tank and then add gas. As much as one might think this will work (and is easier), it will not properly mix the oil in the gas, and you probably will have problems down the road. :emotredf

Mix the oil and gas in a separate jug, then pour it in.

and mark the gas can(s) you use for your ski appropriately, unless you like smoke screens and fouled plugs on your lawnmower:emotisun

I am certainly no expert. But just for the sake of arguement, why can't you first put the oil in your tank and then the gas.

you can if you want to take the chance of not getting fuel/oil mixed properly.
trust me these pointers are written in seized engines and fouled plugs.

you might be fine 99 out of 100 times but its that 1 time that really sucks.

I'd be willing to bet that the odds of blowing the motor are a lot higher than 1 out of 100 ;) You just don't get the oil mixed up as you would when you measure it out and shake it up in a separate jug. By the way, I think thats one reason they call it "PRE"-mix.

If you do it let us know how it goes, I'm interested in knowing how fast it happens.:D Post pics too. j/k ( I hope)

JB, the reason why you don't put the oil or gas into the tank one at a time is that when you top off your tank with fuel, what are you gonna do when you need to add the two stroke oil if the fuel is up to the top of the filler neck? You'll never know exactly how much fuel the ski will take when your topping it off, well, at least my eyes aren't calibrated that well. Not to mention that I wouldn't trust the sloshing around of the oil and gas to mix thoroughly. The easiest thing to do if you're going to go the pre-mix route is buy a five gallon jug at Wal Mart, put the gas in it, then the oil, shake and then add. That way no matter how much you put in your ski, whole gallon or fraction of a gallon, it'll ALWAYS be 40:1 or 50:1, or whatever your ratio is.

Bognorvegascrew, here's a link to the SBT ratio info: http://www.sbtontheweb.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14465

                      It should help.
