Bellow...Do I HAVE to have it?

On Tigershark's (some or all) There is a "Bellow" accordian looking thing attached to the block. It seems to be broke on about everything I work on. My question is, Do I really need this thing? I dont see these on other brands. Can I simply plug it? If one of these is torn wide open, does this create a serious crankcase pressure leak?

Inquiring minds need to know.

It is there to allow the Mag housing or Jet pump housing to equalize the presure when it gets hot or cold.
You could just replce it with a long piece of vent hose running up to a dry location to prevent water from entering whe heated or cooled.
If you put a cap on it the internal presure or vacume may cause the seal / gasket to either leak fluid or suck water.

But for the $8 .00 it costs to replace I would just do that and not worry about it.
