The opening duration and location relative to TDC controls the intake charge and powerband. The stock valve is best, the 159 deg. valve. Aftermarket valves in slightly different durations are available to slightly shift the powerband up or down, but they do not make any more actual HP, and can damage your engine when they fail as they are not hardened steel, but carbon fiber.

So, when I get one, how do I determin the setting or placment of the disk? I bought this ski used and it had a carbonfibor one on it. But OE would be best?
