  • 2004 Speedster vs 2006 Sportster

    Hi All,

I'm looking at getting a boat for fishing and water-sports. I am going to look at a 2004 Speedster 240hp Mercury V6 jet, and a 2006 Sportster 215hp. I am using a jetski (2008 Seadoo GTD Ltd - great ski) and love it, but I am wanting to take more people out with me and also generally have more room for items. I got a jetski originally as I am a small female and do a lot of fishing on my own, so since a jetski is small, it's easy to manouvre. Both boats have pros and cons. What does anybody think of the 2 boats I've suggested. Has anyone got any comments or views, especially regarding reliability/maintenance? I don't know anything about the Mercury V6 as an engine but have heard it is very reliable, in fact more reliable than the Seadoo engines. Thanks!

Actually I have heard the opposite in regards to the Merc powerplant. When BRP bought that division and decided to keep the V6 there were some issues, which is why it was only for that ONE year that they used it.

Personally, I would go with the 215. It will have the same motor as your 08 and it's 100% BRP/Rotax.
