How do I break in a 02 RXDI

My brother in law has a 2002 Seadoo RXDI. The engine seized up two years ago. At that time the seadoo dealer rebuilt the engine for $1500.00. Last summer it seized up again.
Last week the seadoo dealer installed a SBT engine for $2300.00. When asked about breaking in the engine the mechanic told him to put a half a quart of oil in the gas. I read somewhere that you should never put oil in the gas on a fuel injected seadoo. What is the proper way to break it in.
    Thanks

Adding oil to a D.I or R.F.I is a bad thing to do, it cloggs up the injectors and the engine will lean out. the guy who installed the engine should know this.

Well the new SBT engine lasted about 15 Minutes. High mountain recreation(Seadoo Dealer) in Billings Montana claims that they are trying to get another engine from you guys. It has been several weeks and no sign of the new engine. Can you find out if they even ordered one from you. It seems like we are getting the run around. Any help would be great. Summer here in montana is very short and this ski has been down so far. Any tech support that you can give them on this would be greatly appreciated.
        Thanks
        P.S.
I tried to PM SBT tech support but it said your inbox is full.

SeaDoo operator manual recommends a specific amount of injection oil in first take of fuel for all 2002 models except the DI where it states that no noticeable effects result. It is also specific about the useage of the throttle during the first 10 hours.

I just went through a "new engine" break in period that resulted in a failure as the oil pump was not delivering any oil, KEEP your eye on the oil consumption, the ski shoudl be using oil at a noticeable rate!

Thanks for the reply. We didn't add any oil to the fuel as instructed by sbt tech. We made sure the oil tank was full of the proper seadoo DI oil. We idled around for a few minutes and then giving it small amounts of throttle. Not over 1/4 throttle in short bursts. After about 10 minutes it died and they said the cylinders were scored. When we had the very first seize up I asked them if they tested the oil pump and they just replied "The oil pump isn't the problem. Now after three seize ups someone from SBT asked them if they ever tested the oil pump and they are not sure. Now they are saying there is shipping delays at SBT. I think if this place didn't sell Harleys they would be out of business.

If they are not purging the air from the oil lines, your motor will seize. They also need to make sure that the pump is calibrated for the right flow. Any dealer should be able to do this with their eyes closed. Don't let them blame it on an oil pump, that is the scape goat for most dealers. very RARELY do oil pumps fail. Usually it is because the oil cable snaps. The cool think about Mikuni pumps is that they are pre-loaded, so when the cable snaps, it springs to wide open, max oiling.

I concur with Dan on the air in the lines. However on the spring loading I am curious as the spring pull agains the cable and the cable pull the pump "open". In the even t of a cable breaking the cam on the pump goes in the opposite direction the cable pulls it during operation, wouldn't this be closed?

If the pump is forced to it's stop at closed, it is wide open. It's a safety redundancy feature that was built into Mikuni pumps. Closed isn't at the "stop". That's why you have alignment marks.

Re: How do I break in a 2002 RXDI?

I rebuilt my 1997 GTX (not a DI) In the manual I have they say to run the oil pump with a drill to make sure it has no air locks, and purge the system so you know it is working. I ran 2 tanks of premix oil and gas through it (only one required). I also adjusted the oil pump to pump more than the setting in the book. Because I did not want to lock it up. I would suggest over adjusting the pump to the high side of oil delivery and purging the lines. I would think you would have to run oil through the motor by doing premix just to make sure you are lubricated on maybe the first 1/4 or 1/2 tank. I will admit I do not know anything about the DI two stroke. But I have worked on a bunch of two stroke motors in the last 30 years. I would do some premix at the risk of cloging the injectors. You have to make sure you do not have an airlock in the oil line too. Keep trying to get a message for someone at SBT. A guy that helped me was Bill O' something. He must be a service tech somewhere. Look on the site for him. And try to purchace a Sea Doo service manual for that exact sled. This will help a bunch als $40 well spent.

Terrible advice. Never run pre-mix through a DI, you will clog the injectors and possibly fry your motor.

Also, over oiling your machine leads to fouled sparkplugs, increased emissions/pollution, higher operating costs as well as never letting your machine run the way it was designed.
