  • Wear Ring installation

Having some confusion on wear ring install. Thread by Brian Glynn states to use lubricate when driving in new ring, Seadoo service manuel says use Loctite 648? any other suggestions?

What holds the wear ring in place once installed?

Also will I need to do anything special to tighten impellar shaft , it unscrewed fairly easy,

    Re: Wear Ring installation

Once you put the pump back on the ski, that will hold the wear ring from going anywhere. Use lube if you need to, locktite is only going to make it a pain to take out. YOu just need to tighten your impeller up by hand. Once you get it back together and crank it up, the motor will tighten it all it needs.

sounds simple enough. will I need to apply any loctite on the impellar shaft threads?

NOt sure about that. I know I didnt. Probably best to refer to the manual on that one.

I never do.. If you do, you'll never get it off lol.

I torque it down nice and tight with a breaker bar. Then, when you put the ski in the water for the first time, the resistance in the pump vs. water will torque it down harder than you can ever do with a wrench.

manuel suggest using Loctite 271 on the shaft threads, which I have found, but maybe hesitate to use.

HOwever I am having hard time finding Loctitie 518 or 515 which is what is suggestted for the oil pump cover/oring, and the thread sealant that they reccomend for the oil pump plug, any suggestions on alternatives.

Throw the new wear ring into the freezer for about an hour.... the cold makes it contract. It will easily slide in... thrown some water on it and it expands nicely to be a perfect fit.

Don't use 271 if you ever want to take off that impeller again! For the pump cone bolts, blue loctite is what is used. For the plug sealant, I use three-bond 1211.

                  Re: Wear Ring installation

Wear ring installation is now complete and seems to be good. Thanks for all the info, freezing the wear ring seems to be the secret, it went in with little effort. I am now back to working on the carbs. I will start a new thread, Thanks again!
