Hi Everyone! I'm a newbie to this forum. I hope you folks might be able to help me. I have a 96 Seadoo XP that has a hard time starting in the water. Starts on the trailer with no problem. I have done alot of work on this great machine. I replaced the fuel tank (recalled), change all the gray fuel lines out, cleaned the fuel selector, change the external fuel filter, rebuild the carburetors, changed the filters in the carbs, replaced the starter, new battery, changed the jet pump oil, pumped more grease in the zerk fitting on the driveshaft, and cleaned the RAVE valves. I didn't adjust any screws on the carbs. Compression is 120psi in both cylinders. It runs great when I'm able to get it started. It does not bog at all. I have a hard time restarting it after a good ride. Sometime it will start after trying for 5 mins or so. Cranked it so much that it drained the battery. If anyone can give me any advice I would greatly appreciated. Thank you

Re: 1996 Seadoo XP hard start in water
When you restart it, are you giving it any fuel? I have noticed that if I don't set the throttle to about half, it won't start. But it will restart perfectly if I just pump the throttle a couple of times and leave it @ half throttle when restarting.
I have two 717s. 1 is recently rebuilt (SBT), and the other came in the boat. Both engines do the same thing. I assume it is just how these beasts operate....1997 Speedster (twin 720s)

Joey, you could have a pop-off issue, a leaking needle and seat, bad tank valve or poor rotary valve clearance.. to start..
I just typed this in another thread lol..Dan Solie -

Well, you said you rebuilt the carbs, and you may have used the wrong spring, or placed the arm to high on the spring assembly.. The pop-off is the amount of pressure required to allow the needle to "POP" out of the seat and allow fuel into the circuitry.Dan Solie -
