  • Hi-Temp Alarm 1999 GSX-L

After a few minutes on idle speed (outside water) my ski's high temperature alarms goes off. I can touch the engine with my hands and it doesn't feel hot, just a bit warm. However, I have another ski (same model & year) and the engine on that one feels a bit cooler than the one with the high-temp problem...the difference is only a few degrees. I just bought the skies and they were used in salt water, I believe the previous owner probably didn't effectively rinse the skies after riding. Therefore, it may be a semi-clogged cooling system but this is a rookie talking.

Can someone advice on what steps should I take to effectively diagnose the root of my problem?

    Best regards,

    Bill

I assume you are flushing the motor on a garden hose when this happens ? Because if you are not connected to the garden hose, it will overheat within a minute or two anyway.

Remove the temp sensor and clean off the crud that gets builtup on the sensor tip that sits in the water in the head.

Could you be mistaking the heat sensor beeper for a beeping signal that means the gas tank is low on fuel? Is the red led light for low gasoline on during this beeping?

Bill, thanks for the response! Yes to both; garden hose is connected and the "Hi-Temp" word is displayed while the alarm is sounding offnot the fuel alarm.

I'll take the sensor off and clean it...

      Best regards,

It is possible that something is preventing water from circulating throughout the motor when on the garden hose. Look to see if water is shooting out from under the bumper rail water exit fitting and also coming out from around the impellor inside the jetpump housing.

Sometimes you need to buy a new temp sensor if cleaning it does not fix it.

Bill, I cleaned the sensor but the problem continued. I did find a hose that was partially glogged and blew some air thru and the ski is G2G...thanks for you advice.
