unplug the builge pump , if that dont work then the mpem is prob shorted . also possable the stator is shorted .

you will need a service manual and a multimeter

I just went through the exact same thing. I just bought a 96 Speedster and the MPEM was blown. I basically disconnected everything I could possibly disconnect. I unplugged all the fuses in the boat, disconnected the 20A fuse for the front power block and the power supply to the front fuse block, disconnected the starters from the electrical box, disconnected every single thing I could find to disconnect except the power and ground to the MPEM. I also removed all the battery connections (especially grounds) and cleaned them A LOT. Once I figured I had the MPEM isolated and the grounds cleaned real nice, I hooked up the batteries again and......POOF, the fuse blew. At that point I was about 90% sure it was the MPEM, since it was isolated from any other shorts in the boat.

Apparently 96 Speedsters were prone to the MPEM failing. I was told that the plastic stuff in them begins to conduct electricity after a few years and causes internal shorts. If someone tried to jump start the boat it will also fry the MPEM. I am in Canada and it was about $1300. Best price I could find was from PPG for about $975.

Also. Once it is installed it has to be programmed by a Sea Doo dealer, so I paid the 1 hour labour to have them trouble shoot the boat before it was installed to ensure it wasn't gonna blow again, since it had to go in for programming anyway.

Good Luck and sorry for the long post!

              Thanks!
I guess I could check the place where fuse goes on the non powered side and check to see if has continuity to ground to find out if shorted.

The problem is they can test good at times and be bad.
