  • 1100 STX DI Water In Oil - Why?

I have a 2000 1100 STX D.I. with a chip in the corner of one piston. I took the cylinders out and found that there was an unusually large amount of liquid in the crankcase, and that it was that discolored green color you get when water mixes with 2-cycle oil.

I'm guessing that it blew a head gasket, in which case the problem should be fixed when I rebuild the top end...but I wanted to get any other opinions so that I don't fix the top end only to find out that something else was causing the water in the oil and I could have fixed it while I had it apart.

    PLEASE...any ideas are welcome. Thanks.

A lot of oil in the crankcase?
If I am not mistaking there was a recall on your ski.
The recall was to install checkvalves in the oil lines, has this been done?

Oil was flowing into the engine while sitting, causing hydro locks and bending connecting rods, major engine failure.

Wow...didn't know about that one...sounds like my problem.

Yes, the crankcase is about 1/2 full of oil/water...mostly oil.

Follow the link that I give you, make sure you got your VIN number, you should be able to see if their are recalls on your ski and if they have been done.

I tried that link and all it showed me was a recall for some fuel lines.

Do you know a place where I can see all past recalls. I read in another thread that the control module was also recalled at one point, along with the oil check valves like you said.

          Thanks.

Also, is the check valve I'm looking for the one listed in the "crankcase" diagram here as part #16087?

They did the recall, however did not upgrade their parts diagram, you can see them in the parts diagram from the 2001 1100 di part# 16087 look at oil pump section, there are 3 required, one for each oil line going to each cylinder.
There was also a recall for something on the fuel pump, you might want to call your local dealer and ask them about it.
