  • Florida Boating laws and Young riders?

Is there any law in Florida that states what the minimum age of a PWC rider must be? (I know that you have to be 14 to operate)

Basically, over the years, I have rented jetski's on multiple occasions (Mostly intercoastal and Gulf). We finally bought ourselves a pair of ski's of our own. We are not much into 'Sport' riding, more into rivers/lakes (and okay....the occasional playground :))

We would like our son to join us on some trips. He is 2 years old. He loves the water, and we actually took him out on Lake Seminole this past weekend to see how he'd react....and he seems to love it. I can't seem to find any laws saying we can't take him. I prefer for him to sit 'in front' of me (which some suggest would hamper my ability to control the ski...but if your not going that fast, it shouldn't be a big deal)

With my son on the ski, I really take it easy. His safety is my #1 concern, and I would never put him in any danger.

    Thoughts?

I concur. As long as an adult is in control it should be okay.

Just please be very careful! You may be the best rider, but that doesn't mean someone won't hit you or cause you to make an abrupt maneuver.

I've heard of some people taking their pets on PWCs and PETA hasn't complained yet. Some of those PETA people value their animals more than their kids... :emoticoni

I agree...it's not me I should be worried about, it's everybody else that I should be concerned with. The main reason I asked was because SPACE COAST JET RIDERS are doing something up in Silver Springs this weekend, and they seem like a nice bunch (although I have yet to meet any of them). I'd love to take my son as well, as he just loves seeing new things.

Maybe I'll head up there and give it a try.
