Hi I have a 96 Seadoo SPX. I was riding it and hit a wave a came to immediate stop. I lost all electrical and was towed in. After using my service manual I proceeded to open up my electrical box. In there I found a blown 7.5 (VTS fuse), and the 5 amp that plugs into my MPEM. I replaced the 5 amp fuse and the 7.5 and my ski started for about 5 seconds and quit again. I noticed replaceing my 7.5 amp fuse that it was sparking and would blow immediately. I unplugged my 4 wires going to the stator and that stopped. I still cannot get any cranking and continuously blow my 5 amp fuse. I have totally disconnected my VTS and still blow the 5 amp fuse. I removed my stator for inspection, it looks fine and ohms at 50 ohms. Can someone please help. I just don't want to waste a bunch of needless money. Thanks very much.

Re: 96 SPX blowing 5 amp fuse
What does "hit a wave" mean? Jumped the wave, got plowed over by the wave, boat sunk and rolled up on the beach?
Do you think it was damaged by alot of water in the hull?
When you did get it restarted, did it run right? Not sluggish?Bill O'Neal
Re: 96 SPX blowing 5 amp fuse
Sorry about saying hit the wave. This is my first year at jet skiing. I was riding it at 50 mph and jumped a medium size boat wake. When I landed I thought I pullewd out my lanyard, but did not. I was pulled about 200 yards to the dock. When I got home I looked in my Service manual to find there were fuses in the electrical box. I replaced the 7.5 fuse (all by itself) and the 5 amp in the MPEM. I hit the start button and I thought it was fixed. It again died and blew both fuses. My dealer says the VTS will cause this, but I just don't understand in all three connectors going to the VTS is unplugged how can the 5 amp fuse keep blowing. I have the stator laying loose in the ski. Should I replace this at this point, or is it possible my gauges (that don't work) could be my problem? Is there a thorough schematic for this 5 amp fuse, the Service Manual is not real clear. Thanks for any help.

Re: 96 SPX blowing 5 amp fuse
If you have a genuine oem service manual, you have the electrical schmetic in the back of it.
The 5amp fuse protects the mpem. Either your stator, rectifier, or mpem is bad if you have disconnected the VTS plug and it still blows.Last edited by Bill O'Neal2; 09-19-2005, 05:57 PM.Bill O'Neal
